Peril & Promise: Taking Heart Amidst Planetary Crisis
A 4-part Experiential Webinar of Joanna Macy's "Work That Reconnects"
w/ Lydia Violet, co-hosted by Ben Roberts
June 8, 15, 22, and 29
In these precarious times, when the future of 95% of life on Planet Earth hangs from the frailest of threads, how will we bear it? How do we resource so that we can stay present in our work without collapsing into paralysis or panic?
Joanna Macy's "Work that Reconnects" (WTR) can help us do just that. The WTR is a dynamic, interactive body of work developed over the past 40 years by Macy, a scholar and respected elder in systems theory, deep ecology, and Buddhism as well as 50+ years of international activism. Practiced internationally, this work has helped many thousands of people to engage in the Great Turning, re-invigorating our energy for action and resilience.
Together we'll engage in exercises, meditations, and concepts that we can rest into and organize with, in our desires to be effective allies to both planet and people. We are all at the hub of the wheel of this Great Turning, each being asked to do our part.
Our facilitator, Lydia Violet Harutoonian, has been a dedicated apprentice to Macy and the WTR for the past decade. As an Iranian-American touring artist and scholar, she returns time and time again to the inner and relational tools she has developed from engaging Macy's work, which offers a place to rest and regroup as the crises of our time intensify.
Ben Roberts is a systemic change agent and process artist. Since 2009, his work has focused on convening and hosting both in-person and virtual engagement in service to the Great Turning. He has extensive experience creating online versions of group processes such as World Cafe, Open Space Technology, and Appreciative Inquiry. Now, he is honored and inspired to be working with Lydia Violet to bring the amazing processes of Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects into the virtual realm.
We will meet on June 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 9AM-12PM PST on a dedicated Zoom video conference line.
Participants will also have the option of joining discussion groups that can meet between sessions, along with light reading assignments.
All teachings will be recorded and accessible after the session. Group work exercises will not be recorded.
Registration is $150, or $77/mo for 2 months. We do our best to accommodate "no one turned away" participation. For alternative payment arrangements please write to email@example.com
"I have seen repeatedly how Lydia's work has released cultural creativity in vital response to the cultures of fear and ignorance spreading in our land. Here participants find honesty and strength, as well as spirited community, for facing our current crises head on.
These qualities are the essence of what the WTR generates, and as root teacher of that work I rejoice that Lydia is an outstanding and trustworthy facilitator. With her understanding of its theoretical foundations and her skill in guiding practices, the content she interweaves serves to strengthen the Work." - Joanna Macy
